The Nursing Baby - Q&AOne mom asks: My 7 month old is still not interested in eating any solids. She does not seem hungry and when I do get something in her mouth ( cereal, fruit) she usually spits it out. Any hints? Please answer ASAP!! Thanks. 7 months is still an experimental stage for foods. If your daughter is not at all interested, I would back off, and try again later in a few weeks. Both of my own children refused solids from a spoon, and were only interested in chunkier foods beginning at 8 months, so I know what frustration you are going through! Breastfeeding provides the perfect nutrition. The American Academy of Pediatrics agrees that solids should not be given in the first 6 months at all, and only say they should be started "sometimes in the second half of the first year". So let your daughter take the lead. She will feel great having control over what she eats, and you will find that she will be interested in solids before you know it! It's important to let her decide when, and to keep eating to be a fun time shared with the family, and not a battleground.
