The Nursing Baby - Q&A

Candace Deleary asks:

I have a 10 month old son, who has been breastfeed since birth and still is currently. I have just found out that I am pregnant again, Should I stop breastfeeding my son, or continue? and will there any be side effects to my unborn child? My due date is February 3, 2000.

Candace, the little research that has been done has shown absolutely no harm is done to the fetus when a woman nurses through pregnancy. However, if you had premature labor or other complications during your first pregnancy, you may be advised to discontinue nursing through this one. And of course, if you have premature labor during this labor, you may also be advised to discontinue.

I just nursed through my last pregnancy, lost 19 pounds through morning sickness before beginning to gain weight, and still ended up with a 9 pound, 14 ounce baby. The human body is amazing, and women's ability to nurse and give birth, is simply miraculous.

Happy Nursing, and a Happy Delivery as well!
