The Nursing Baby - Q&AI was wondering if anyone had decided to breastfeed late. I changed my mind after my daughter was about two weeks old. Did you have any success? Hi, Do I understand that your daughter is now two weeks old and you are considering relactating? Did you nurse at all? From the resources I gathered below, you have an excellent chance to reestablish a good milk supply for your daughter. The most important point seem to be to use a double pump every two to two and 1/2 hours when your daughter is not nursing. You may also be interested in using a supplementer, such as Medela's SNS system. I suggest you immediately put your daughter to your breast, at any sign of fussiness. Nursing does not have to be just about food, but is also a wonderful source of comfort. I would also recommend that you avoid pacifiers at least until lactation is at the level that you want. It may also be useful to get a prescription of Reglan, which can be used to increase the milk supply. Working with a qualified IBCLC lactation consultant will probably be important. She can answer many of your questions. Even if you have to pay out of pocket for her services (in case your insurance does not cover), remember that a breastfed baby can save your family up to $2000 in formula/medical costs over the coming year. From what I have gathered, it may take you up to two weeks to reestablish your supply (since you haven't nursed in two weeks?). I hope some of the following links are helpful for you, and I wish you great luck in relactation. Nursing really makes parenting easy, and I hope you can enjoy its benefits with your little one.
