The Nursing Baby - Q&A

Looking for a list of foods a breast feeding mom should not eat so the baby will not get a upset stomach or gas.
Thank you.

One study suggests the list of foods breastfeeding mothers of colicky infants would do well to attempt excluding would include:

Beef was exonerated from the list:) Keep in mind that most babies sensitive to these foods will not be sensitive by 3 or 4 months.

Another study indicates that some babies afflicted with eczema may be helped by avoidance of cow's milk and eggs. Peanuts may also be a good food to avoid during pregnancy and lactation by a family afflicted by allergies.

Keep in mind that there is no reason for a breastfeeding mother to avoid any foods at all *unless* there is reason to suspect food allergy or intolerance. Families with a history of food allergy may need to avoid certain foods during pregnancy and lactation - you may be advised to do so by your allergist, but the jury still seems to be out as to how much prevention can actually be accomplished by such measures.
