The Nursing Baby - Q&A

My daughter [3 months] does not sleep more than 2 - 3 hours at a time, and rarely takes naps during the day. I have found this to be very frustrating. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Are you family bedding? I found that gives me a great deal more sleep. I also have a son that doesn't need nearly as much sleep as I *wish* he did. Tips that I have found to help me out include:

  1. Family bed. What this does is help align your sleep cycles to those of your daughter's. Even though family bed babies tend to wake more during the night, baby tends to follow the mother's sleep cycles - therefore disturbing her less. I personally found I got a lot more sleep full family bedding over starting Ian in the crib and then bringing him to bed.
  2. Give up saving things to do 'until the baby goes down'. Waiting for Ian's naps to do things really made me frustrated when he didn't go to sleep when I thought he should. Instead, I began putting him in the sling and doing those things I had been putting off. That really made me feel better.
  3. Use the sling more. Babies in slings tend to nap shorter, but more frequently, than babies not held.
I hope you found these answers helpful.
