I was nursing my son, feeling very maternal, so I began singing a lull-a-bye to him. Well, lo and behold, he sticks his pacifier in my mouth. I figured, this is his normal game and he'll take it out, but no, so I took it out and resumed singing. Well, he put it right back in. Even 12 month olds are critics!

I love nursing a toddler. They are becoming so knowledgable. Drew was nursing his clown the other night. (we got it on video for him to enjoy later) Naturally, when the first side was "empty", he told the clown, "other side" then switched sides >=)) All of this was in response to comforting clown after he dropped on the floor.
Cheryl - SAHM to James (11/89) and Drew (7/95)
Jacob (3 mths) has begun "talking" to me when I place him in the cradle position to feed. It's as if he is saying "Hurry up! I'm hungry!" He also has a habit of swinging his arm and hitting my chest while we lay down to feed but he only does this with his right arm.
Carol - mom to Jacob (Oct 10, 97)
My son Jared is 7 months young. When we are spending time together nursing, it has to be in a dark quiet room...if I speak (even softly), he unlatches and looks at me as though to say "Do you mind??? At night (one of the few time when my hair isn't in a ponytail!)he runs his fingers gently through my hair which hangs just past my shoulders...I think this is very soothing to him. Nursing is definately a time for bonding.

Whenever I am nursing my little Ryan my other two kids crowd around me to watch. Unfortunatly Ryan gets quite distracted by this and frequently pops off to smile at his older brothers. What is really really cute is when my oldest ( who is 2 ) says" mommy, Ryan fell off his food again" and pushes his head back onto me :)

I was nursing my youngest, 13 mo., to sleep and working on the computer, when my oldest, 4, comes in from outside. He has his wheel barrow with a bunch of rocks and dirt in it. He had dug them up looking for roly-polys (pill bugs) and had found several of them. He sat down and asked me if there was anything he might get for the roly-polys to eat, I suggested a few dry leaves. So he got them some. Then he asked if there was anything else he could get for them, I said maybe some dirt to crawl around in, so he got that, too. Then he said "Maybe they would like me to read them a nice story, like Aladdin." So he sat down and very quietly began reading his roly-polys the story. I looked back and it was just so cute that it brought tears to my eyes! I thought how wonderful it is to be a mom and how blessed I am to have my two beautiful boys!! Well, I know it's not bf related, but I thought it was sweet! Hey, he was bf'd though! :) Thanks for reading!!

I have 2 kids, 4yo and 15mo. I have never had any qualms about nursing in public, but have had my share of disapproving looks and comments. However, when I was nursing my 1st child, I had an experience that gave me such confidence about nursing in public, that I wanted to share the story.

My 1st was about 4-5 months, and my husband and I went to an Indian restaurant for dinner. The atmosphere was very nice, and quiet. The tables were fairly close together, and the light was low. We were eating our dinner and I was nursing our son, when I noticed the couple at the next table kept staring at me. Not only staring, but I mean leaning around to get a better look, then talking to each other, and looking again. It didn't really bother me. As they got up to leave, they both looked at me and started walking towards our table. My first thought was that they were going to say something nasty about my nursing, since that is what usually happened. However, they both came up to me, the woman with watery eyes, and said, "We just wanted to let you know that we think what you're doing is the most beautiful thing. Thank you for letting us watch!". I could hardly contain my own tears. I was so amazed that I just said, "Thanks!" with a huge smile as my son was still latched onto my breast. After that experience I never gave a second thought to what other people thought of my nursing in public. I do it whenever and where-ever I want, with no inhibitions what so ever. I don't pull off my shirt or anything, but I never use a cover. Hopefully more people will come to think of breastfeeding the same way as the couple in my story. Happy nursing! :)

Oliver My 6 month old son is a very distracted nurser. We tend to nurse in quiet dark places. One day day DH came home early and we were nursing on the bed. Dad comes up to Oliver and says, "hey there buddy, Daddy's home!" Oliver pulled off...pushed my DH hands away and went back to nursing with his arm over my breast to hide his his face....as if to say..."Not now Daddy, I am nursing!" Kids, you gotta love them.

I recently took my two children (Madison, age 3; Grant, age 2-1/2 months) to Sears for pictures. After we were done, Grant started to fuss because he was hungry. The photographer said, "Oh, he must want his bottle." My 3-year-old daughter replied emphatically, "No. He has a boobie and it has milk in it!"

My wife breastfed our first child, a girl. She is now 3yrs. and we are expecting our second child next month. Our new one will be breastfed too. I think that it is truly amazing and wonderful for mother and child. With our first, my wife would sometimes pump and bottle some milk so that I could participate too.

The story by Cathy Clark brought tears to my eyes as I remembered a similar experience. My Grandma had died 11 months before my first child was born. As I spent more time alone with my Grandpa, our relationship blossomed. Grandpa was a gentleman and the most "intimate" thing he had ever shared in my presence was with a red face and a smile as he tried to act out the movie Octapussy during a charades game.

One day after my son was born Grandpa came for a visit. I had NO experience nursing in public nor from underneath my blouse. I didn't want Grandpa to uncomfortable and leave. I pulled a blanket over my shoulder and managed to get my son latched on. After a few minutes Grandpa asked if he could see. I imagine this took some courage for him to even ask. I told him it would be fine with me and pulled the blanket down. He stepped up and quietly watched. When he sat back down he looked at me and told me that it was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen. I felt wonderful to have been a part of something so special to him.

One day when I was breast feeding my son he looked up and smiled and said mommy i'm sure glad your allowing me to nurse at the age of 12 that was the cutest thing since he's really 2.5!!

One day as my 2 year old daughter and I were watching a television show, a baby was shown being placed in a crib. The mother then walked away and in no way was the baby distressed. My daughter, however, was quite upset. She told me, "That baby no want his mommy to leave him in there. He want to get out!" It just seemed so crazy to her that his mom would leave him in a "cage".
