I didn't nurse my first, was young and stupid. Second child I nursed for 5 mons. Don't even know why I quit so early. Lost third child. Nursed fourth child for 21mons. until the biting was so painful and child would laugh about it. Fifth child I nursed for almost 3yrs. and I pulled her off. She is 4 now and still loves holding the breast when she goes to sleep. I had no problem with any breastfeeding except for the fifth child. I had cracked nipples at two wks, survived that. Then when she was 2yrs. and 4mons. had clugged ducts which led to infection, in turn led to an abscess, then surgery, but I continued to nurse her until she was 3yrs old. I am once again expecting and will try to nurse again. I hope the surgery will not affect my ability to nurse. The surgery was an emergency one, so the doctor in ER doc cut across the milk ducts. If all else fails I still have one side left.
I know how people, especially mothers, can put you down for bf. All the comments, when is she/he ever going to stop. Response, when they are ready, not you. My mother and other family members didn't like my bf because my children wanted and needed me more than them. I had a very special relationship with my nursing children. Especailly my daughter. After all the pain and everything else I would not trade a day of nursing, just to give in to pressure from family members. I felt such joy knowing that my babies thrived on me. I even had people saying, when are you going to give them some real food. (Solids) At six months, and again, when the child was ready, not when you are.
