The Nursing Baby - Your Breastfeeding Stories

15 years ago I breastfed my first baby and almost quit because of the discomfort of engorgement, but my husband encouraged me to continue "just one more week" until it became 9 months later. At that time I was 5 months pregnant with #2 and had no idea that it was possible to feed two at once. The next pregnancy was twins, and I figured that if God was giving me two babies at once, He must also intend for me to feed them both! In spite of docs telling me that it couldn't be done, they nursed for 2 1/2 years, and had no solids for 11 months. They were incredibly healthy and breastmilk chubby! #5 loved her "nana" until she was 2 1/2 also. #6 (and last) is 15 months and shows no interest in weaning, which makes two of us! I am convinced that breastfeeding is 10% information, 10% support and 80% determination and perseverance. But to this day I have an incredible bond with all my children and they all still love to be with me, which is very unusual in the world of teenagers! I am grateful for the special nursing/bonding times with each one of them, and it really is a short time out of my life to dedicate to my babies.
