When we were pregnant with our first child I decided I would like to breastfeed and I made a commitment to doing that and stuck to it. It wasn't as easy as it looked. Within the first two weeks we encountered thrush and I was so sore I would grit my teeth with pain every time we nursed. After seeing our doctor we tried Gentian Violet and three days later we were back nursing comfortably and my baby started thriving.
I can't begin to put into words how special this time we spend together is. My son is eight months old now and we're still breastfeeding several times a day. He looks up at me with his beautiful brown eyes and smiles as we lie there snuggled warmly together. I am so happy I made this choice not only for my child, but for me. It has made the magic of this child even more incredible than I ever could have imagined.
Another thing about breastfeeding is the way the child developes. I eat a good, healthy diet and it shows in my son. He's nearly twenty-five pounds at eight months, has six beautiful teeth, a gorgeous complexion and hasn't had a single day of diaper rash. When I look at other children who haven't been breastfed it only reassures me that I have given my son an invaluable gift and I feel blessed to be able to give him something special in return for the love and joy he has brought to our lives.
